Getting data from the current view

How do I get access to the data of each editor view?
I'm particularly interested in the data the we can set with the "Configure..." command. Stuff like the display mode, the image that is on the background, etc.
Can I access each view independently or do I only get data (and be able to set it) about the current view?
Please, tell me how to get and set that information from COFFEE.

But if there is a class named BaseView that deals with editor views its simply stupid that we don't have access to that data.
For instance, in the SDK we have:void GetParameter(Vector* offset, Vector* scale, Vector* scale_z)Retrieves the parameters for the current projection.
and
LONG GetProjection(void)Returns the projection used by the view.
We ca have access to that. Why not to the configuration?
