Change alembic generator state/type
-
Hello everyone,
is it possible to change the "State/Type" of an Alembic object - when you put an alembic generator in the scene, it is by default a null object. So can I change this through Python or somehow, so that you have a polygon, spline or camera alembic object? -
Hello @vik-lc,
Welcome to the Plugin Café forum and the Cinema 4D development community, it is great to have you with us!
Getting Started
Before creating your next postings, we would recommend making yourself accustomed with our Forum and Support Guidelines, as they line out details about the Maxon SDK Group support procedures. Of special importance are:
- Support Procedures: Scope of Support: Lines out the things we will do and what we will not do.
- Support Procedures: Confidential Data: Most questions should be accompanied by code but code cannot always be shared publicly. This section explains how to share code confidentially with Maxon.
- Forum Structure and Features: Lines out how the forum works.
- Structure of a Question: Lines out how to ask a good technical question. It is not mandatory to follow this exactly, but you should follow the idea of keeping things short and mentioning your primary question in a clear manner.
About your First Question
Alembic objects in cinema are designed to work in a close connection to the objects inside the alembic file. There is no public interface available for changing null-based alembic generator to any other alembic type. Hence the question would be more in what goal are you trying to achieve by creating an empty alembic generator object.
I see two main directions for your further investigation in this regard. First, you can give it a try importing proper alembic files into the active document by using LoadDocument() with the SCENEFILTER_MERGESCENE flag active. Another option could be to call Bake as Alembic command on a proper object in the scene. However, as I already said, these files doesn't make a lot of sense without any reference to the underlying alembic file.
Let me know if you have any further questions.
Cheers,
