      Any way to convert a PLA-animated SplineObject into an animated Hair object? I note that "Convert from Spline" ignores the animation on the SplineObject.

        What you could do is to convert the spline into an Hair object and then use the animated spline in the Points Link field of the Hair object. You find it under Guides->Editing. I uploaded a Cinema file that shows a PLA animated spline controlling a Hair guide.
