I am having problems getting an answer to what seems would be a fairly straightforward task.
I have a floorplan in Illustrator that I'd like to import into Cinema 4D.  There is no "Import" item in any menu that I can find in my version (release 😎 of C4D.
I have tried to "Open" the files from C4D but an AI file gives me and "unsupported file format" error and an EPS doesnt seem to appear anywhere after I open it.
Do I have to create an object of some type before I import?
What is the best way to import from Illustrator into C4D??

You need to EXPORT in ILLUSTRATOR a NATIVE .ai FILE. SAVE a ILLUSTRATOR 8 file.

Then you will need to OPEN that file in c4d.

You may have to play with the settings in c4d under EDIT>PREFERENCES>IMPORT/EXPORT....regarding grouping and connecting.

I've just experienced this problem after upgrading to Illustrator CS for Mac OSX. I used to save Illustrator Eps file from Illustrator 8 and drag and drop them onto the C4D icon in the doc to open them. Super easy. Now I have to save them as .ai files, or down grade to V8 Eps files when saving for C4D.

            Nick.

When you create your file in illustrator the submenu will come up and ask you what version you want to save it as.
SAVE IT AS A ILLUSTRATOR 8 FILE.

For some reason Cinema will not read a vector file newer than Illustrator version 8

              Good luck
