Hi, I am new in the forum.

I have experience with Java and C# and Cinema 4D since V5 (I used V6 very much but have not much experience about the never more advanced features of V7 and V8) - I now want to program plugins.

      Questions:

      1. I guess there is now way to program in Java, resp. C# since the SDK is in C++ ??? Right ? Or is there a possibility to write the code in an alternative langue ?

      2. The plugin should import a text file containing only coordinates of objects (only spheres and zylinders).
On the other hand I want to be able to export the objects in the same format I've read it in before (ASCII).
Actually this is only the first step of what I plan for the plugin to do.

I want your advice telling me how difficult it will be to do this - learning C++ (I have much experience in other languages) and using the C4d SDK (looks partially cryptic to me). How difficult would it be to implement these functions I described above ? What are the advances using Visual C++ instead of COFFEE ???
Can somebody tell me the URL of source code, tutorials (how to use Visual C++ to write plugins, etc.), or perhaps send me some examples of source code ???

In about two weeks I will get a constant internet connection again (perhaps there are some Instant Messanger users who want to share ideas/discussions ?) - till then I will learn some C++ basics and have a look at the SDK (please give me advice how to learn most effective).

      Thanks, jago

        1. There's no easy way to use Java or C# to make plugins. (I can't say that it's impossible, since you could always write a bridge yourself to the API.)
        2. It's impossible for me to know how much you know. But if you have 8.1 there's already the C++ SDK examples in your plugins folder. Open it up and have a look at the STL example (in the 'filter' folder).
I wouldn't recommend C.O.F.F.E.E. if you have access to Visual Studio and are able to learn C++, since C.O.F.F.E.E. is slowly becoming a bit dated.
Also be sure to download the documentation, and the excellent documentation plugin for VC so that you can have access to the docs from within VC directly.
