You may have heard (*g* ) that I ' going to release a plugin very soon that has an educational pricing, too.
So if the S/N structure does carry information about if it's an EDU version or not, then it would be much easier to handle EDU-Registrations.
Cheers

But that would limit your plugin for students, because there may also be a lot of students that do NOT use a student license. For example all students that have their own company (for graphics design for example) are probably using a "normal" version. This would mean they cannot get a educational discount on your plugin.

The license limitations of the EDU version of the plugin plugin are the same as for the EDU Cinema version anyway. This means, that if a student have his or her own company they have to buy the normal version.
There are quite a few high end amateurs that use the full version and won't get a student discount though they certainly would rather deserve it. Why should a professional get an EDU version then - just because he or she is also studying?
There might be exeptions - but the general rule will be: EDU plugin for EDU Cinema license, normal license for the rest. I'm certainly not going to discuss each single license case or attaching lots of paperwork to it.

So people that do not take the money from "Vater Staat" but do try to earn their own money are even punished for this? What´s the deal behind this?!
Well, it´s your shader, of course you can do with it whatever you like. To get back to the question, I think there is a certain scheme but I doubt it´s like the temporary serial number scheme (which isn´t really that important for it evaluates anyway) and therefore MAXON won´t tell you -

Well, as I pointed out, there are people who pay the full price though they don't use it professionally. These people even pay taxes that beside other things fund the universities. So it's not fair anyway. Life isn't fair, and market segmentation is not about fairness, but about adaptive pricing.
From the perspective of handling orders it's crucial to handle that process as efficient as possible. Otherwise you end up with a total mess. Just imagine that Katachi would have to handle edu pricing case by case
Cheers
Klaus
P.S: As I already pointed out, you and me can make a barter anyway

Sorry, but that´s nothing I believe in. Fair prices should belong to a good product.Just imagine that Katachi would have to handle edu pricing case by case
It will

Well, but Katachi hasn't dealt with EDU pricing until now - so it hasn't be fair all along?;-)
Your system is as unfair as mine, just to different people - pricing is *never* fair. See it this way: Two graphic professionals often have the same economical status. One is still studying, the other trying to get into the field. So you give the student a headstart, and I don't. You like to support a student and I don't like the idea of skewed competition. Both are serious and honourable motifs, and btw reflect our current economical status (Brecht: "Das Sein bestimmt das Bewusstsein", Being determines consciousness). We certainly could agree to disagree here
I'd rather make clear rules first and deal with the exceptions case by case by case later than to make the exception the rule.
Anyway, let's get back to the point here...
How to get the license status? Mikael? Anyone else?
Of course I would also sign an NDA, if that's needed.

At the moment, if the 6th position of the serial number is a '1' then it's an educational version.
