Hello,
I have posted this message few days ago in the GENERAL DISCUSSION Section by mistake.I hope here it will receive the answers we are looking for.
We are planning to switch into a new rendering and animation software, as we are not very satisfied with our current one - Art*lantis Render, a plug-in for ArchiCAD . We still think of keeping ArchiCAD as main model tool and to import the model.
We are considering two options: 3D Max 5 or Cinema4D.
Our main concern is to make the back and forth process between ArchiCAD and the Renderer as easy as possible. We already found a Plug-in for Max.
The other basic point is the reallistic looking landscape( trees, shrubs and Flowers), as well as moving people and cars. Do you think, that there will be a RPC Plug-in for Cimema4D in the near future?
Please comment the Cons and Pros of Cinema4D.
Thank you in advance -

I do not know ArchiCAD but for they support Export and Importformats like VRML 2, OBJ, 3DS and others that Cinema 4D can handle pretty well, I guess it´s just a matter of what kinda quality you are expecting after ex-import. You should check the import/export functions/quality by using the Demo that is available atwww.maxon.com

I don´t really know what is meant with RPC (Realistic People & Cars??). Cinema 4D does not have any functions that create realistic looking trees, shrubs or flowers and other landscape dependant objects (Cinema 4D has a landscape object that has some capabilities, but if you are looking for realistic Objects with kind of a variety in it, Cinema 4D can´t give you this "onboard"). But there are some really good Addon products that support Cinema 4D. For example Greenworks XFrog (Standalone application) has an excellent exportplugin for Cinema 4D, that even supports animationdata exchange. www.greenworks.de should be their homepage. There are also some CDs that contain really good Trees, City Objects, Streets, etc. (you can find them directly in the maxonshop:[URL-REMOVED]/resources.main&sid=&uid=mxqMIS7MreRGdck&aid=&cid=100&rn=323
[URL-REMOVED])
or the Dosch CD Packages that cover a lot of objects for any situation and that have full Cinema 4D support on those CDs (means all Objects, textures etc are in Cinema 4D FileFormat).
Poser also has a plugin that is available for the Pro Pack that has full Cinema 4D Exportdata exchange support afaik.
If you can move people and cars realistically depends on your skills of animation. You can definetly gain realistic movements with Cinema 4D (and in R8 even easier than before) but it all depends on your artists. I don´t think MAX Users will say anything that differs in that case.

Please comment the Cons and Pros of Cinema4D.

can´t say anything here for I don´t really know what you are putting weight on. Be a bit more specific.

Samir,
Thank you for the answer.
"RPC technology utilizes image data, and is capable of reflecting an incredible richness of detail. The use of continuously updated and synthesized image data creates a stunningly effective 3D illusion."
http://www.rpcnet.com/ you can find more information.
We are looking for something that will save as a huge amount of poligons, because most of our projects and scenes have them already - last project about 2 million poligons without any vegetation.
The trees that you recommended are with up to 8000 poligons each.
We have a project with 160 townhouses and 7 Apartment buildings and 15 acres lot.
Best regards -

Hello,
I see that the RPC Topic is one of the most visited and we are still waiting for official Maxon's answer. Do we have to contact them directly ?
Please find an answer to my request to RPC development:
"Hello Victor.
We do not plan to create an RPC plug-in for Cinema4D
ourselves. We have however had some interest from Maxon (the makers of
Cinema4D) about incorporating RPC support natively within their
application. We've also had some other companies express interest in
developing a plug-in for Cinema4D. Hopefully someone will come through
in the near future and incorporate support. It would be helpful if you
expressed your interest directly to Maxon about seeing RPC supported
natively. They generally respond quicker when they know their customer
base is asking for it.Let us know if you have any further questions.
Thanks,
Randall Stevens"
Best regards
