      Hi All,

the spam on this site is ridiculous. I know we can report a post etc, but is there something else we can do about this?

        Hi,

I completely agree with you but we cannot unfortunately do anything.
The version of the Web Wiz forum engine is too old and limited.

I mean no offence but that's a bit defeatist, Yannick. The spam here is ridiculous for a commercial support site. Maxon should be showcasing the support it offers developers, not putting up with some ancient forum software that doesn't even remotely approach modern standards.

          You could:

          * get the latest version of WebWiz forum software
          * or switch to phpBB or some other more modern forum
          * even install a captcha for registration on this old version (the least satisfactory solution but better than nothing)

Presumably this forum is hosted on a Maxon server or Maxon pay someone to host it. Either way, someone must be responsible for maintaining it. Get _them_ to sort it out.

To see just how inadequate this is, ever since a post was made about the developer kitchen, we've been inundated with crap about free kitchens all over the place. This board is wide open to bots and spammers and it makes you wonder what other aspects of its security are like.

          Steve

            Hi Steve,

I think I should have given more information in my previous post.
The administrator is aware of these issues and is working on a new version of Plugin Cafe.

              Ah well,

You should have said that was in the works

That's the best solution, of course. We'll all look forward to seeing what you guys come up with!

              Cheers,

              Steve

it is getting seriously out of hand. even with very old forum software such level of spam is avoidable. add a mandatory timespan after you have been registered before you can post, blacklist ips and so on. the current situation can only be interpreted as a lack of interest.

TBH it is truly shocking that any forum should lay itself open to this level of spam. Let alone what is, or should be, an important corporate site.

Sorting it out does not appear to be a priority, which reflects poorly on Maxon.
