I'm a little bit worried about this idea. Because if people go there and get helped. The knowledge they gain won't be available to anyone else who wasn't there at the same time.
I'm having a hard enough time trying to convince people to post more complete code in these threads as it is.
I always post the solution after I get helped. Not for me....But to make it easier for the other people coming up behind me.Whatever is learned in a chat session is lost to everyone else. And that worries me.

We are advising people to post questions here as well and then provide the solutions once they are reached. Feel free to join us ScottA, we could use your help.
Thanks -

I share your worry, ScottA. But people should post there solution after they found it..
But in the chat, it's much easier to discuss. And simple questions can be answered
fast, too. -

Yeah posting the solution here is the best way to show the results. And actually prevents people from having to parse through the process that was used to figure it out sometimes. Although I do like that sometimes too.
Perhaps we could post the entire chat session after a topic is discussed?

Did this idea die so quickly? Whenever I go there, there's nobody in that channel.

It must have. I stopped in yesterday and today and it was empty. Maybe a web based chat would be better? Not everyone knows hows to use IRC.. I could enabled the chat module on my site if people are interested in using it.

IRC should be fine, and it is really easy to use.
IMO the thing is that people just don't have the time to chat all day and help other people with their programming questions. We all have jobs, too Therefore, the chat has been mostly quiet and people who went there to get help did not get it immediately. So they left again.
After all, using this forum is more relaxed than a chat. I can help people and answer to their questions, but I don't have to do it right away. It gives you more time to answer. Also, the forum works as an archive, so common questions don't have to be discussed over and over again.

Yeah, I agree with you. It's definitely the time thing. I like the forum setup because I can check in at any time without having to quit my day job. LOL.. The chat is a nice idea but I found that I didn't have many questions that i couldn't just find here or in the SDK. It is nice of Robert and his friend to offer this service though. Hopefully more people will take advantage of it.
Speaking of day jobs. I'm off to mine now.. lol Last day then i'm off for two months for summer vacation. It's officially plugin season.. LOL

I strongly agree with these points, especially the archive one, which is why I decided not to get involved with the chat thing. It's a nice idea but just doesn't work for me.
Plus I know that IRC is supposed to be easy to use, but I've never used it before and I was put off by the security risks that from my reading seemed to be attached to it. Maybe I'm just being paranoid, but you know the old saying
