As a plugin developer, it would be nice to have access to older DEMO versions of C4D (both PC and Mac) for some longer amount of time after new demo versions are made available.
This is not the first time I've run into this problem, but currently, I need to track down a 'Mac PPC R9.6 DEMO' version and as far as I can tell, there's no way to find that on this site, since previous demo versions are removed when new ones are available (actually, I'm not even sure that there IS a PPC demo version - but there needs to be, if not).
I'm currently supporting back through v7.3 for my Riptide plugin, but maybe at least keeping a history of two major revs (inclusive) around would be far enough for most developers? (ie. now that R10 is out, we should still be able to find the R8.0 - R9.6 inclusive demo versions).
This is even more important now that the SDK is no longer made available as a separate download, so the DEMO versions provide both the SDK and a testing environment (assuming you don't have that particular licensed version on your machine).
Maybe put download links in the forum area here where the general public still goes through the normal download demo pages (so they can sign up yet again to get more newsletters ).
Consider this a petition - developers, chime in here if this has ever been an issue for you.
In the meantime, I currently do need to track down a 'Mac PPC R9.6 DEMO' - any help with that would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Keith

I don't think there ever was one - the 9.6 demo was UB only.

That explains it then (as I was afraid). I take it that a demo version cannot be 'updated' (say R9.5 demo using the R9.6 update)?
I second the motion of the petition. It's not even a matter of finances - you can't buy older versions (let alone find them for sale). Since most people upgrade, the only way this would happen is if someone is selling Cinema 4D completely and happens to include older versions.
This would definitely make life easier when providing support to older versions. Of course, you can't test document saves or render to file, but at least you can confirm the plugin's efficacy.
Thanks,
