Hi,I just installed the free Visual C++ 2005 Express Edition and the Platform SDK on my XP64. Now, as the first step, I'm trying to convert the cinemasdk to 64bit using the 64bit-migration.pdf.
The first problem occurs already at step 3:
When trying to add a new solution platform, "x64" isn't available in the selection popup menu of the dialog window "New Solution Platform" and the checkbox "Create new project platforms" is disabled. I tried to type in "x64", but the mentioned checkbox stays disabled.I read several postings about the express edition. Some say, you need to buy the visual studio, some say you just need to install the platform sdk.
Now my question is: Is it possible to compile 64bit plugins with the express edition or not? If the conversion is really so easy as described in the migration.pdf, I would buy the studio monster right now!

Maybe not too many developers here are using VC++ 2005 Express? I had been using the VS 2005 .net beta recently until the beta trial expired. Now I have the full version, so no need for the Express Edition.
Looking at the Microsoft website, I see this:
Build 32-bit native code applications designed for Windows using the Windows Platform SDK.
By default, Express does not allow 64-bit compiles.

Looks like one has to pay about 1500 € (vc pro) just for compiling a 64bit plugin. The hacks described unter the 2. link, may work for developing win apps, but I can't imagine, that it will work for plugin dev.
So I think, my custumers won't get a 64bit version for the next times.

Howdy,
There is an upgrade from MS Visual C++.net 2003 to MS Visual Studio Standard that was only $174.99 from pcmall.com. The standard version will also compile 64 bit. It seems there is quite a list of qualifying products for the upgrade. Check out Microsoft's developer site and see if you have a qualifying product:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/howtobuy/renewal/#standardAlthough, I'm having a bit of trouble with cinema4dsdk project and some linker errors. It's only 20 errors, but I'm not sure what to do about them. They're all "unresolved external" either LNK2001 or LNK2019.
Any advice on that would be appreciated.
Adios,
Cactus Dan
