Language(s) : C++ ;---------Maybe it's in the new documentation ( all I found was 8.1 SDK docs? ), but, v8.1 hf->ReadChannel(BaseChannel* ) did not require an allocated BaseChannel where as it seems 8.2 does ( tested as part of my J1 import code ). Assuming that the pointer should be NULL when passed to the function because it worked in 8.1 ( contrary to how 8.2 works ). This was painful. Maybe others can benefit...

A small hint is given in the signature of the function, since the parameter type changed from reference-to-pointer to just pointer, but I guess that's a little hard to spot since it doesn't cause any compilation errors. (For the docs I use windiff on the api folder.)
