3D optical illusion effect?

So for example - imagine you're looking at a simple cube on screen, but as the camera moves around, you see that it's been distorted and positioned to give the illusion of only being correct looking from a particular point of view.
Technically I imagine this would involve getting the matrix of an object and the camera frustum of a point in space, and juggling these around with active camera frustum matrix.
It's beyond me - but if anyone knows how this could be accomplished - please let me know!
